Heritage Festival

Situation:

The African American Heritage Festival is a family-oriented cultural festival held on the historic campus of Huston-Tillotson University (HTU).  This event is designed to celebrate the rich heritage of the African American community and celebrate the African American family in Austin, spotlighting the rich heritage and culture of African Americans.

Challenge:

  • Client engaged team to develop concept, visuals, marketing/media plan & execute the event in less than 4 weeks.
  • Overcome the lack of Afro-centric cultural activities available in Austin
  • Need to unite the community through positive reinforcement of the vibrant culture we continue to create every day in Austin

How We Helped:

  • Provided a safe, entertaining, family-friendly atmosphere that uplifted all age groups and drew community involvement
  • Offered a “Taste of Our Austin” by showcasing African and African American food and products through local exhibits, demonstrations and performances from the best that Austin has to offer
  • Showcased HTU as a quality education option for future high school graduates and exposed visitors from other Texas Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to a vibrant community for African Americans
  • Generated positive media coverage for the event and the African American community at large

Impact:

Attendees left the festival with a renewed sense of pride and a strengthened bond with the community.  In addition, the client engaged A Halo Effect to plan and execute the festival for a second year.
