BiGAUSTIN, Central Texas'
leading non-profit
micro-enterprise development
organization, was
experiencing the influx and
transition of new board
members. BiGAUSTIN
recently received a large
grant that would
substantially impact the
capabilities and reach of
their program offerings to
over seven counties. For BiGAUSTIN, it was
time to regroup, revitalize
and commit to collaborative
effort to develop a common
vision.
Challenge:
To develop a formal plan
of board training and
education to continually
upgrade the level of
board skills and
knowledge
To help board members
collaboratively develop
a strategic plan that
provides:
- a
clear vision for growth
-
a long-range service
delivery model,
and
-
financial development
plan to support
expansion
How We Helped:
•Generated
a shared understanding,
commitment and
accountability to the
strategic plan and
fundraising plans of
the organization
•Developed
a plan for board member
accountability based on
areas of personal
strength
•Clearly
defined how BiGAUSTIN’s
functionality should be
“packaged” (communicated
to constituents)
•Helped
board members and staff
prioritize key
activities to tackle in
the upcoming year to
support the proposed
plan of action
Impact:
•Developed
a top-level strategic
plan which can be
translated into a yearly
operating plan by the
staff, but will serve
as a tool to measure and
reward ongoing success
throughout the year
•BiGAUSTIN
gained a better
understanding of target
constituents and how
they would
operationalize and value
BiGAUSTIN's expanded
offerings
•Estimated
the potential business
impact of improved
functionality
